Sonic Models J50 painted samples shown

Updated: Jan 29, 2022

Sonic Models have released images of painted samples for their forthcoming N Gauge LNER J50 0-6-0 tank locomotive, which will be available exclusively from Rails of Sheffield.

The Sonic Models J50 is based on the Group Standard design known as J50/3 (with steam brakes) and J50/4 (with vacuum brakes) and features a host of detail variations including GNR or LNER buffers, open or plated coal rails, plain or fluted coupling rods and raised or flush Ross pop valves.

Rails of Sheffield state:

As you can see, the model is progressing very nicely, with further samples expected soon.
As always with production samples various amendments, alterations and tweaks happen before production fully gets underway. The purpose of these samples are to identify issues. Therefore please do not regard these images as final production models.

The models all feature a similar drive to Sonic’s popular GWR 56xx as well as a detailed backhead in the cab and 6-pin DCC socket arranged such that a 90° decoder will ensure that the chip is largely hidden in normal use.

The models are available to pre-order exclusively from Rails of Sheffield, who have been appointed the exclusive retailer.

The models are priced at £109.95 and pre-orders are being accepted now with just a £20 deposit
