Malcs Models & TTC Diecast have announced a Rapido Trains UK exclusive N Gauge Class 44.
D8 “Penyghent” BR Green With Small Yellow Panel (As preserved) will be available in just 100 models. The prototype Locomotive is preserved at the Peak Rail and is only one of two surviving Class 44s.
D8 was built in 1960 and was one of only ten Class 44s built between 1959 and 1960. They were numbered D1-10 and also named after British mountains leading to this locos name ‘Penyghent’.
It was withdrawn from service in November 1980 and after withdrawal it was taken to Glasgow Works open day in June 1981, from there it was purchased by Steven Woods who had it taken to Aviemore.
It went to Boat of Garten for remedial repairs to get it in working order, but that never happened. It was then advertised for sale in September 1986 and has been owned by the North Notts Loco Group ever since.
