Revolution Trains have received the first shots from the tooling for their N Gauge Class 375/377/387 Electrostar EMU project, with three variations displayed at the 2025 International N Gauge show.

Being the first body mouldings produced, they are not fully representative of the final details that will be found on the production models, but they give an initial idea of how the CAD design translates to a physical model and Revolution Trains are now assessing the moulds for any nessecary changes or improvements required. Even at this very early stage however, we can see that Revolution have captured the subtle yet complex cab curvatures of the prototype extremely well.

The test shots also demonstrate how Revolution are approaching the distinctive ribbon glazing of the Class 375 & 377 vs the more traditional window style of the Class 387 variants of the Electrostar family.

A removable air conditioning roof panel on the driving coaches will give access to the switches for controlling the interior lights and tail lights for DC users whilst the Next18 DCC chip socket will be accessed via a removable section of underframe on the PTSOL car. The factory fitted speaker is also located in this vehicle. Interior lighting on the intermediate coaches will also be switchable and accessed via a removeable AC roof panel.

Power will be transferred between vehicles via conductive couplings on a kinematic close coupling mounting, meaning only one DCC chip will be required across the entire unit.

Three variations of the class were on show, representing the Class 377/1 with triple cab front light clusters and ribbon glazing, Class 377/2 with with dual light clusters and ribbon glazing and the class 387/2 with dual light clusters and individual windows.

The specifications for the models are as follows:
Injection moulded plastic body and bogies with separate detail parts and metal weight. Where appropriate wire handrails/piping.
Wheels to NMRA RP25 (code 72) standards.
Inner couplers have electrical connectors in kinematic mounts to allowing close coupling and power transfer / DCC signal transmission throughout the train.
Low-profile mechanism with coreless motor, Next-18 DCC interface (single decoder needed) and factory-fitted sound speaker.
Minimum radius 262.5mm
Driving cars to have a choice of dummy Tightlock or Dellner couplers in kinematic NEM sockets with standard N gauge couplers separate in the box to allow for multiple running (or loco haulage).
All cars feature switchable dimmed white interior saloon lighting, with capacitor for flicker-free operation.
Driving cars feature directional white led headlights with switchable day time and night time running and red tail lights. Head and tail lights are independently switchable for multiple working for both DC and DCC operation.
DCC controllable Central Door Locking light
Pre-orders for the Electrostars are currently open on the Revolution Trains website along with full details of the liveries available.
